The pristine sands of Porthmeor beach – a favourite for surfing – are less than 400 metres downhill; pick up the South West Coast Path here and you can walk in one direction to Clodgy Point and in the other to The Island, a headland that juts out into St Ives Bay. The Tate St Ives art gallery celebrates West Cornwall’s connection to artists from around the world; from here, a stroll across the peninsula leads to the historic harbour. If you’d like to explore further afield, Land’s End is a 20-mile drive south-west, and romantic St Michael’s Mount at Marazion is less than 10 miles south.
